Last Sunset at Marathon

Bahamas Bound
We are still in Marathon so really not a lot to report this time. It will be two weeks on Monday. I remember talking to a cruiser last year who said they had been stuck in Marathon for three weeks waiting to cross to the Bahamas. I thought, at the time, how awful but here we are nearly as long a wait and it is fine. Marathon is a quaint place, very laid back and friendly and the cruising community here at Boot Key Harbour are very active and social. We have been to a few lunches, sundowners, movies etc plus lots of walking. Best of all the weather is great. Warm, not humid and coolish at night. March is definitely the month to be here. That won’t be the case when we return in June.

"Planning Meeting" Night before the trip to Bimini

It seems that Wednesday is the day we will depart. All the indicators look good for our passage across the Florida Straits and the dreaded Gulf Stream. We have elected to go directly from Marathon to Bimini, about a twenty hour trip. Some of the others here waiting to cross are moving north on Tuesday and overnighting at Rodrigus Key before making the crossing on Wednesday morning (a much shorter route). We and two others have decided that rather than move and have to find a place to anchor for the night we will just keep on going. We have reservations at a marina in Bimini for Thursday night, where we plan tol crack a bottle of champagne to celebrate our arrival in the Bahamas.
I hope we will have some more interesting news to report next week when I update the blog.

What can I say?
